Here
is a photo of William's first
attempt at beading. He used the Woodland
Butterfly Belt Pattern from this website to begin his work. He modified
the pattern in several ways, and chose his
own colors to make
this truly a personal beadwork piece..
William used
the off
loom flat bead
weave. The pattern as he worked it is 40 beads x 71 beads. He
writes that he used 2,840 Pony Beads, each one 6mm x 9mm, and 130 yards
of waxed thread. The piece measures 22 3/4 inches width by 10 1/4
inches length. It was made to be a gift to a friend.
It was
fun, but a "big learning
experience". William says what he learned while doing this is "You have
to
always stay in
the present moment or you'll end up with a big knot in the thread or
beads that are lined up to go on will hit the floor".
The e-mail from William really gave me a lot of pleasure, sometimes I
get discouraged when I am here working on these beading patterns all
alone. To see my work become a part of someone's life is really
satisfying.
William
writes
"Thank you for such a great website to help
someone like me that is
completely new to beading. I'm already looking around to see what I
want
to do next."
