This could easily be mistaken for a Butterfly, but it is clearly a Moth. As a child I brought to school a cocoon that held a Large Beautiful Moth much like the one in this pattern, I still regret the battered wings we found the morning we opened the schoolroom closet door and saw that she had come out into the world. If I were that teacher now, I would insist that the cocoon be displayed outdoors so that the beautiful creature could fly free when the time came.
